Joint Supervisory Authority of Customs

The Joint Supervisory Authority of Customs or JSA Customs has been established on the basis of Article 18 of the Convention on the use of information technology for customs purposes as a body which is competent for the issues of supervision of the Customs Information System (CIS). The JAS Customs consisting of two representatives from each Member State's respective independent national supervisory authorities which are responsible for personal data protection.

Main tasks of the JSA Customs are monitoring and ensuring the application of the provisions of legal provisions on protection of personal data, examination of any difficulties of application or interpretation which may arise during operation of the Customs Information System (CIS), drawing up of proposals for the purpose of finding joint solutions to problems as well as drawing up of opinions on the adequacy of data protection measures.
